Angela's Rose
Medium: Watercolor on 140lb hot-pressed cotton
This painting was inspired by one of my many visits to the Portland Rose Garden. I used a photograph that I took as my resource.
I spent almost 20 years in Oregon and have returned there often to visit. The Portland Rose Garden is one of my standard 'go-tos' while there. At some point, as I was looking through my photos, I set a goal to paint 12 of my favorite roses and use them for a calendar. Roses were my entry point into realistic painting, but I like to paint them much larger than life.
When I started painting roses, I decided I would paint an original for each of my children and grandchildren. This one belongs to my eldest daughter.
Original is 20" (40.64c) wide by 16" (50.8c) high
Painted in 2010
